Dr Dan Sullivan has recently returned from working with a major engineering consultancy in Birmingham UK, where he led the transport planning business across the UK Midlands.
Birmingham is the second largest city within the UK and is the economic centre of the UK Midlands. Congestion in the West Midlands alone has been estimated to cost the local economy more than £2billion (A$4.5b) per annum. A range of local and national measures have been targeted at reducing congestion and improving the efficiency of the transport network. Dan will talk about these and other transport planning measures that he experienced while in the UK and how they may be relevant to transport planning in Australia.
